Determining the characteristic length of floating ice sheets by moving loads / Devinder S. Sodhi, Carl R. Martinson, W.B. Tucker, III.
Title: | Determining the characteristic length of floating ice sheets by moving loads / Devinder S. Sodhi, Carl R. Martinson, W.B. Tucker, III. |
Author(s): | Sodhi, Devinder S. Martinson, Carl R. Tucker, W. B., |
Date: | 1985. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers |
In: | Proceedings of the Fourth International Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering Symposium, presented at Energy-Sources Technology & Exhibition, Dallas, Texas, February 17-21, 1985. (1985.), Vol. 2. |
Abstract: | Describes technique for measurement of deflection of floating ice sheet in response to known load based on integration of response of sensitive slope transducer to moving load at constant speed. Gravitational field acts as datum. Characteristic lengths obtained by this method compare well with those obtained by direct measurement of deflections. |
