| Abstract: | Formation of sea ice in basin examined using one-dimensional convective mixing model. Oceanographic data obtained in 1974 and 1975 used as initial conditions in model. Results indicate that no sea ice formed in Weddell polynya during these years. Major criterion for sea-ice formation in winter is salinity of water in mixed layer in preceding summer. |
