| Abstract: | Draws attention to little-known report by P.C. Sutherland, published in 1852, which provides evidence that there are two floras, not one, on bottom of Arctic sea ice. Recent studies also indicate presence of halocline flora. These systems suggest function of stability provided by sea ice. |
