Record #73261:

La biologie des populations d'oiseaux marins / Pierre Jouventin.

Title: La biologie des populations d'oiseaux marins / Pierre Jouventin.
Translated title: The biology of sea bird populations.
Author(s): Jouventin, Pierre.
Date: 1984.
Language: French.
Abstract: Brings together extensive experience of ornithology in French Austral and Antarctic Territories (Terre Adelie, Iles Crozet et Kerguelen, Iles St Paul-Amsterdam), discussing discovery of new species (D. Amsterdamensis), quantitative analysis of stomach contents of various marine birds, relationship of oceanographical observations to avian feeding areas, and division of territory between species on land. Discusses possible and actual range of prospecting for food for chicks from island base, and effect on egg numbers of different species. Discusses why complex mating behaviour represents necessary adaptation for successful breeding. Gives overview of genetic information about marine birds from Kerguelen and Crozet. Concludes by relating various adaptations of marine birds to environmental circumstances.

Offprint: Le Courrier du CNRS. Vol. 54 :42-48.
