| Abstract: | Laura had just been confirmed, when her father asked her to tour his congregations as peripatetic teacher. This was in 1919. So began 40 years as wandering catechist in Inari wilderness. She went from house to house on reindeer sled, ski, boat or walking through swamps, over lakes and mountains. Her equipment was bag of books, abacus, travelling harmonium and undaunted mind. Life brought many challenges. She was ready to serve when needed as home help, milkmaid, reindeer herder, vet or forester. As educated person she got to help those entering the country and those leaving. In old age Laura Lehtola returns to past times, story of her education, homeland and all that formed her. Result is book about life of joy and penetrating wisdom. |
