Record #57289:

Varför samiskt? / Inger Zachrisson.

Title: Varför samiskt? / Inger Zachrisson.
Translated title: Why Saami?.
Author(s): Zachrisson, Inger.
Date: 1977.
Publisher: Stockholm: Statens historiska museum
Language: Swedish.
In: Möten i gränsland. Samer och germaner i Mellanskandinavien. (1977.), Vol. 9
Abstract: Iron Age hunter-gatherer culture must be seen as independent, similar to later Saami and Uralic groups. Stationary kåtas should be seen as settlements, even if complemented by lavvos. Criteria to identify Saami include dwelling type, burial with birch bark shrouds, drum hammers, carved figures, technics and ornaments. Saami hide preparation is still distinctive, and copper and bronze were favoured. Hunting and fishing had Saami character, but were taken up by Germanics. Some sword and arrow types may have been regarded as Saami.
