Abstract: First article considers written sources from 550 to 1350 AD, where Saami are called "finns" or "skridhfinns" (skiing... ) and were natural part of Norse society. In Christian codes of law they were outsiders. Language difference is not noted. South Saami language is most conservative. Placenames show South Saami present in Viking Age right to southern Norway, and historical sources agree. Forest Saami are found in southern Sweden in 17th to 19th Cents. with small number of deer.
