Many words associated with these show that type is of great antiquity. Other Saami had farms by Early Middle Ages. siida organisation is claimed to predate birth of Christ. Boundaries can be reconstructed from at latest 1500 AD. Society was stratified from Iron Age on, but possibly in different way from contemporary Germanic one. Vivallen should represent top stratum in society. Prestige objects from outside world indicate exchange of surplus, probably fur. Health of teeth indicate Vivallen group was well adapted.
