Abstract: | Main question is whether carriers of late hunter-gatherer culture were finnar of contemporary written sources and placenames. Archaeological material shows that South Saami society was dynamic, socially and economically stratified and mingling with Germanic. Most criteria of Saami culture are from northern Uralic speaking area preceding Germanic. Dimensionless traits of crania from cemetery in Härjedal showed Saami "racial type" does not exist. Pollen showed uses of area over time, with signs of early pasture. South Saami is most archaic Saami language, so immigration cannot have come from north. |
