Abstract: Monograph based on research in East Greenland hunting community at Tiniteqilâq, 1967-1968 and sporadically up to 1975. Author went seal hunting, fishing, gathering barries etc., three children went to local school and wife attended to catch and to skin parts of clothing. Theme is traditional and changing forms of authority. Danes never attempted to cause changes or to make leader ship superfluous, but their innovations did have effects. Chapters: Leadership, including piniartorssuaq (great hunter), in changing situation; hunting; fishing; innovations, with example of Billiam Jonathansen - "intelligent and enterprising, ready to soak up great wealth of knowledge and ready and eager to adapt"; changes in social structure during modern contact phase; leadership in settlement; headship in connection with forms introduced by Denmark.
