Record #54103:

Extract from letter to Director-General of Lands, 17 April 1975 / Sir Robert Alexander Falla.

Title: Extract from letter to Director-General of Lands, 17 April 1975 / Sir Robert Alexander Falla.
Author(s): Falla, Robert Alexander,
Date: 1975.
Publisher: Wellington, NZ: Department of Lands and Survey
In: Preliminary results of the Aucklands Islands Expedition 1972-73. (1975.),
Abstract: Published record (1970) of soft-shelled southern spider crabs in sea-lion vomit in March (a critical post-breeding period for adults of both sexes) indicates that diet may be strictly seasonal. Further observations of vomit throughout year indicate that Hooker's sea-lion is almost unique among New Zealand seal species in being mainly land based and dependent on food resource from inshore waters.
Notes:

In: Preliminary results of the Aucklands Islands Expedition 1972-73 / John C. Yaldwyn, ed.

Appendix to Falla, General observations on the seasonal cycle of the southern spider crab (Jacquinotia edwardsii ) and its significance in the food cycle of Hooker's sea-lion, ibid., p.381-382.
