Abstract: Research activities of the U.S. were augmented during the 1970-71 austral summer by an extensive physiological research program on the Alpha Helix, Laboratory work was started on arrival at Arthur Harbor on Jan. 2 and was completed on departure from Deception I. on Feb. 23 1971. A wide variety of physiological problems emphasizing themoregulatory and cardiovascular functions were studied during the expedition. The studies involved the use of elaborate physiological and biomedical instrumentation. Some of the main research activities are summarized. Also published in BioScience, 21(16) :869-870.
