Abstract: Part of RGS President's address at Anniversary Meeting on 31 May 1880. Confirmation received that USA will send expedition under Captain Howgate to set up temporary station for Arctic observation and discovery on or near shore of Franklin Bay, with possibility of pushing gradually towards North Pole; permission given by Admiralty to use provisions depots left by Sir George Nares in Smith Sound.
