Abstract: Author notes five layers in Saami from Uralic (at least 6000 years old) to Scandinavian loans (from time of Christ). Examples are given of animal names and hunting equipment. Saami law'že, "rein", corresponds to Finnish lämsä, "lasso" and further Uralian "snare". Taboo words for "bear " include "creeper" and for wolf "long-tail". Names for "reindeer" are discussed.
