Record #41628:

Pitfalls / Harald Hvarfner.

Title: Pitfalls / Harald Hvarfner.
Author(s): Hvarfner, Harald.
Date: 1965.
Publisher: Luleå: Norrbottens Museum
In: Hunting and fishing. Nordic symposium on life in a traditional hunting and fishing milieu in prehistoric times and up to the present day. (1965.),
Abstract: Describes different types of pitfall used in world, surely independently devised, and style of pitfalls in series found in northern Fennoscandia. Dug over centuries by small populations, they eventually collapse. Size of catch indicates export of quarry. If so, trade would have gone in different directions as external power and wealth shifted. Differences in material of pits are probably just what is available. Rows of pits do not coincide with present Saami areas, but reasons are easily found for this.
