Abstract: Present ice conditions are generally similar to those observed 50 and 80 years ago, except that in 1946 a large portion of the ice shelf broke away from the region of Cape Columbia, and in the last 50 years, the ice shelf in Yelverton Bay may have disintegrated. The five main types of formations (ice shelf, bay ice, fast ice, pack ice, and ice rises are described and defined.
