Abstract: | Ice shelves (large floating ice sheets) with level or gently undulating surfaces, flow under their own weight, although limited areas may be aground. In the Antarctic, ice shelves vary in thickness from 200 to 1300 m; no generally preferred orientation of crystals and fewer impurities than on land glaciers. |
