Испарение снега

Title: Испарение снега
Title, transliterated: Isparenie snega / A.K. Di︠u︡nin.
Translated title: The evaporation of snow.
Author(s): Di︠u︡nin, A. K.
Date: 1961.
Publisher: Novosibirsk: Izdatelʹstvo Sibirskogo Otdelenii︠a︡ an SSSR
Language: Russian.
Abstract: A discussion is presented of the history of research into the problem, the present state of theoretical thought, experimental methods, and results of empirical observations. Particular attention is given to the influence on snow evaporation of wind, radiational heat exchange with the atmosphere, and heat exchange within the snow. A series of evaporation measurements made with equipment designed to measure evaporation from soils indicates that the factors most involved in increasing the speed of evaporation are, in decreasing order of their importance: (1) the mixing and dispersion of snow during drifting, (2) the action of the wind over the snow surface, (3) solar radiation , and (4) the flow of heat from the ground to the snow. Little attention has in the past been devoted to any of these factors, with the possible exception of the second and, to a very small degree, the third. Much work remains to be done in the testing of existing hypotheses through experiment and in developing theory along the lines indicated by empirical research.
