Abstract: Cyclones produce local upwellings. In the zone of the Antarctic Divergence, and thus promote the ascent to the surface of large aggregations of Euphausia superba which attract baleen whales, chiefly blue whales. Fin whales feed further to the north, and their distribution is less dependent on cyclone distribution.
