Abstract: Use of records of ice off Iceland as index of climate over wide areas is examined. Features of ice conditions were examined in relation to: (1) air temperature for large areas in N. hemisphere and several smaller areas in S. hemisphere; (2) dates of freezing of lakes or duration of their ice cover; (3) level of Lake Michigan and discharge of water in the Nile river; and (4) the glaciation in widely different areas.
