Abstract: Describes studies on north fork of Eldridge Glacier, which is temperate alpine type. Velocity profiles show slip at edge and shear in adjacent layers. Summer accumulation pattern is demonstrated which makes glacial balance unusually delicate. Concludes that glaciers here are near recent maxima because high-altitude accumulation offsets shrinking of lower tributary glaciers.
