Abstract: Concludes that objections can be raised against shear hypothesis for formation of type of moraine found on Baffin Island and at Thule, Greenland. Also concludes that it is possible for ice to form at bottom of ice sheet and that this accretion of new ice can lead to freezing-in of loose debris lying on bed of ice sheet. In turn, this frozen debris can result in formation of moraines in ablation areas of ice sheet.
