Record #35610:

Equilibrium profile of ice caps / Johannes Weertman.

Title: Equilibrium profile of ice caps / Johannes Weertman.
Author(s): Weertman, Johannes.
Date: 1961.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1961.), Vol. 3(30) (1961)
Abstract: Presents refinement on Nye's calculation of profile of upper surface of ice sheet (see ibid., 1959, 3(26) :493-507) with special reference to central region of ice cap. Longitudinal stress and creep-rate effects are included by introducing more generalized law for sliding velocity of glacier over its bed. Somewhat "flatter" profile is thus obtained. For large ice sheets, additional stress causes no modification in Nye's theory. Nye's theory has also been extended to include isostatic sinking of ice of bedrock below ice cap under weight of ice.
