Record #33957:

Some observations on the snowfall of Ruwenzori / John B. Whittow.

Title: Some observations on the snowfall of Ruwenzori / John B. Whittow.
Author(s): Whittow, John B.
Date: 1960.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1960.), Vol. 3(28) (1960)
Abstract: Seasonal precipitation examined and height of climatic snowline determined. Two distinct periods of surplus accumulation and two ablation seasons can be recognized. Precipitation diminishes with altitude above 3050 m. Water equivalent of annual accumulation on highest peak is thought to lie between 635 and 762 mm. Synoptic charts for 12 months have been analyzed and attempt is made to relate seasonal variations of accumulation and ablation to meteorological factors accompanying oscillations of Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.
Notes:

Journal of Glaciology. Vol. 3(28) :765-772 (1960).

Keywords: 551.578.4 -- Ice needles, sleet, falling snow and graupel.
551.578.46 -- Snow cover and snow patches.
(67) -- Equatorial and central African states.
