Record #32983:

Перигляциал Антарктиды

Title: Перигляциал Антарктиды
Title, transliterated: Perigli︠a︡t︠s︡ial Antarktidy / K.K. Markov.
Translated title: Periglacial phenomena in Antarctica.
Author(s): Markov, K. K.
Date: 1959.
Language: Russian.
In: Informat︠s︡ionnyĭ bi︠u︡lletenʹ Sovetskoĭ antarkticheskoĭ ėkspedit︠s︡ii. (1959.), Vol. 9 (1959)
Abstract: Physical and chemical weathering in Antarctica is described. Frost action, temperature variations, and wind cause desquamations, fissuring nivation cirques and terraces, structural formations, cellular weathering, eolian deposits, and stone cauldrons, while in loose deposits frost fissures, stone splitting, stone stripes and screes form, and stones are set upright. Two periglacial zones are disdtinguished: the internal zone of the cold Antarctic desert, and the cool and moist peripheral zone of the Antarctic islands (subantarctic and temperate zone). There is no vertical zonation of periglacial phenomena, those at sea level being the same as those at elevations up to 1-2 km.
