Record #30826:

Measurement of the slip of a glacier past its side wall / John W. Glen.

Title: Measurement of the slip of a glacier past its side wall / John W. Glen.
Author(s): Glen, John W.
Date: 1958.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1958.), Vol. 23(3) (1958)
Abstract: Velocity of flow of Austerdalsbreen was measured at two sites where ice margin had no moraine debris between clear ice and unfragmented rock. At both sites, ice was flowing past rock at velocity of same order of magnitude as velocity of flow at centre of glacier in this region. This large amount of slip is evidence for high rate of slip all along ice--rock interface, in accordance with current ideas of flow of ice below ice falls.
