Abstract: From a study of mean geopotential heights, geostrophic flow, temperature gradients, surface inversions, tropospheric and stratospheric lapse rates, geopotential and wind variations, etc., it is concluded that the free air circulation and characteristics are simple and depend largely on latitude.
