Record #29466:

Observations in North Greenland relating to theories of the properties of ice / Colin B.B. Bull.

Title: Observations in North Greenland relating to theories of the properties of ice / Colin B.B. Bull.
Author(s): Bull, Colin B. B.
Date: 1957.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1957.), Vol. 3(21) (1957)
Abstract: In order to test Nye's formula relating maximum surface slope at point on ice sheet with thickness at that point, observations were made of surface slope in North Greenland. Values of shear stress on bed at these points are calculated. It is unlikely that variations of shear stress cn be related to rates of moement. Suggests that difference between values of shear stress in North Greenland and those in south Greenland is due to presence of bottom melting in former.
