Record #25054:
Local Pleistocene glaciation and the level of the snow line of Croaghaun mountain in Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland / A. Farrington.
Title: | Local Pleistocene glaciation and the level of the snow line of Croaghaun mountain in Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland / A. Farrington. |
Author(s): | Farrington, A. |
Date: | 1953. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (1953.), Vol. 2(14) (1953) |
Abstract: | Existence of group of corries, which, with absence of extraneous dust, is taken as evidence that inland ice of County Mayo did not extend far beyond present coast. Relation of corries to local topography is described, and effect of topography on apparent snow line. Probable snow line of main glaciation of west of Ireland is shown to be about 384 m, but may have been as low as 305 m. During late-glacial period, it was about 533 m. |
