Record #24076:

A comparison between the theoretical and the measured long profile of the Unteraar glacier / John F. Nye.

Title: A comparison between the theoretical and the measured long profile of the Unteraar glacier / John F. Nye.
Author(s): Nye, John F.
Date: 1952.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1952.), Vol. 2(12) (1952)
Abstract: Measurements by seismic sounding reported by other workers are compared with theoretical calculations. By assuming valley to be cylinder of parabolic cross-section, theoretical curve for surface is deduced which depends on one unknown parameter only: average shear stress on bed, If this parameter is taken to be constant and equal to 0.77 bar, calculated and measured profiles agree quite well.
