Record #215128:

Implicaciones del cambio climático en los procesos y ecosistemas pelágicos del Ártico / Paul Wassmann.

Title: Implicaciones del cambio climático en los procesos y ecosistemas pelágicos del Ártico / Paul Wassmann.
Translated title: Implications of climate change for pelagic processes and ecosystems of the Arctic.
Author(s): Wassmann, Paul.
Date: 2012.
Publisher: Bilbao: Fundación BBVA
Language: Spanish.
In: Impactos del calentamiento global sobre los ecosistemas polares. (2012.),
Abstract: Describes variability, dynamics and decrease in Arctic sea ice, and explains how primary production in open waters and marginal ice zones varies with sea ice cover and structure of water column. Demonstrates how warming climate and reduced ice cover will increase primary productivity, reduce stratified water masses in southern Arctic waters, and disrupt relationship between biological processes in water column and sediment layers, resulting in invasion of boreal species. Increases in water flow from Siberian rivers and reduction in permafrost will increase turbidity, cause small increase in primary production and major addition of old biogenic material. These changes are likely to cause profound alterations to productivity and biodiversity of Arctic Ocean.
