Record #215126:

Victor Smetacek.
Translated title: Is the decline in Antarctic krill the result of global warming or of the extermination of the whales?.
Author(s): Smetacek, Victor.
Date: 2012.
Publisher: Bilbao: Fundación BBVA
Language: Spanish.
Abstract: Discusses reasons why Antarctic krill populations failed to recover following quasi-extinction of Southern Ocean whales in mid-20th century. Suggests that role of whales in recycling iron in ecosystem has been underestimated and that decline in krill populations in waters off Antarctic Peninsula, caused by global warming, may be factor in slow recovery of whale stocks.
