Abstract: | Examines appearance of Ob-Ugrian myth of how elk became constellation. Surveys myth using 11 texts, comprising tales and songs, in Mansi and Khanty languages recorded over 150 years, mainly from Surgut Khanty region. Pays close attention to linguistic elements of texts and tabulates characteristic features. Provides lyrics in translation of two recorded elk-songs. |
