| Abstract: | Author presents case of one Aleksandr Vyskovich Vengo, whose tribal land is situated on territory of Ob' oilfield in Khanty-Mansiyskiy Rayon in Khanty-Mansiyskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug. Charts troubles of indigenous peoples caused by oil "treasure". Highlights fact that they are ignorant of own lawful rights, therefore sign economically dubious agreements and receive little compensation. Notes that it is too early to speak of equal co-operation between oil corporations and owners of land. Presents general description of current problems of indigenous population including loss of traditional culture, alcoholism and lack of participation in politics. |
