Oil without conflict?: the anthropology of industrialisation in Northern Russia / Florian Stammler.

Title: Oil without conflict?: the anthropology of industrialisation in Northern Russia / Florian Stammler.
Author(s): Stammler, Florian.
Date: 2013.
Publisher: Oxford: Berghahn
In: Crude domination : an anthropology of oil. (2013.),
Abstract: Focuses on Yamalo-Nenetskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug in Russia, where oil and gas extraction has led to relative co-existence of native communities and industrial workers without open protest. Seeks to explain absence of violent protest in West Siberia via persistence of Soviet values and idea of kollektiv. Analyses general factors contributing to relatively peaceful extraction of mineral resources: 1.Social organisation and traditions of conflict resolution; 2.Demography and geographically specific land use patterns; 3.Presence and absence of international attention; 4. Role of state and its approach to economic diversification.
