Abstract: Analyses main pattern of public behaviour in Kurumkan, Buryatiya Respublika, namely, pokazukha, which is defined as putting on false show to cover up actual state of affairs. Investigates effect of pokazukha on public life of region through example of House of Culture, which is central site of pokazukha practices. Shows how pokazukha reflects and modifies local relationships and why Russians and Buryats feel and behave differently during pokazukha.
