Abstract: Discusses possibility that Carlos Tidblon and Carlos Gusmán, both from Sweden, were among first to sight Antarctica. Tidblom was captain of sealing vessel San Juan Nepomuceno which returned to Buenos Aires in March 1820 with 14,600 seal pelts, suggesting that he had previous experience of sealing in those waters.
