Abstract: Using example of Salezertobel avalanche, demonstrates how direct avalanche records and indirect climatological snow data may be combined for approximating runout distances of 30-, 50-, and 100-year return periods. recommends emphasis on analysis for direct observations to enable calibration of indirect procedures.
