Record #214294:

Marine-terminating outlet glacier response to hydrological mechanisms: a comparative study at Store Gletscher and Rink Isbrae, Uummannaq Bay, West Greenland / Helena Nathan-King.

Title: Marine-terminating outlet glacier response to hydrological mechanisms: a comparative study at Store Gletscher and Rink Isbrae, Uummannaq Bay, West Greenland / Helena Nathan-King.
Author(s): Nathan-King, Helena.
Date: 2015.
Publisher: Cambridge :
Abstract: Uses remote sensing approach to characterise glacial lakes and their volumes at Store Gletscher and Rink Isbrae, two marine-terminating outlet glaciers in West Greenland, and assess influence of hydrological processes related to supraglacial runoff and supraglacial lake drainage on their flow. Contrasting geometries provide effective comparison though environmental controls are similar. Store Gletscher shows strong influence of hydrological mechanisms on summer velocity variability, unlike Rink Isbrae, which has lower capacity for lake formation due to steeper hypsometry and narrower ablation area. This reflects primary controls of surface topography and surface runoff volume on lake formation.
Notes:

Unpublished thesis submitted for degree of Master of Philosophy, University of Cambridge.
