Record #214186:
Postcranial growth and development of immature skeletons from Point Hope, Alaska / Libby W. Cowgill.
Title: | Postcranial growth and development of immature skeletons from Point Hope, Alaska / Libby W. Cowgill. |
Author(s): | Cowgill, Libby W. |
Date: | 2014. |
Publisher: | Cambridge: Cambridge University Press |
In: | Foragers of Point Hope : the biology and archaeology on the edge of the Alaskan Arctic. (2014.), |
Abstract: | Evaluates patterns of ecogeographic body proportions and upper and lower limb activity levels from skeletal remains of immature individuals from Point Hope site, northern Alaska, and compares with large, geographically diverse set of samples from other regions of world. Finds that immature individuals from Point Hope are characterised by intermediate weight for long bone length, low brachial and crural indices, high levels of postcranial strength, and moderate levels of humeral asymmetry. In many ways, biological patterns detected in young individuals are similar to those documented in adults. |
