Abstract: Presents yearlong series from moorings-based high-resolution profiles of water temperature and salinity from Laptev Sea slope (2003-04) and findings of six very persistent staircase layers. Notes that findings suggest that double diffusion is important mechanism influencing heat fluxes that help determine state of Arctic sea ice.
