Abstract: Comparative study of Okvik/Old Bering Sea (OBS) ivory art and Liangzhu jade art in China shows greater design and conceptual similarities between these than between Okvik/OBS culture and Shang/Zhou Bronze Age cultures. Describes and illustrates theriomorphic design typical of Okvik/OBS culture, and Taotie design on Chinese bronzes and its prototype in Liangzhu jade culture. Proposes new perspectives on origin of Eskimo maritime cultures.
