Monetary poverty in Inuit Nanangat / Gérard Duhaime, Édouard Roberson.

Title: Monetary poverty in Inuit Nanangat / Gérard Duhaime, Édouard Roberson.
Author(s): Duhaime, Gérard.
Roberson, Édouard.
Date: 2015.
In: Arctic. (2015.), Vol. 68(2) (2015)
Abstract: Quantifies, for first time, scope of poverty in Inuit Nunangat, four regions of Canadian Arctic where Inuit live. Using monetary definition of poverty, develops low income measure that takes household composition and consumer prices into account, based on data from master file of 2006 Census of Canada and surveys by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada on revised Northern Food Basket. Results provide strong basis for comparison between Inuit Nunangat and Canada in general, and reveal that poverty rate in Inuit Nunangat is almost five times that in Canada.
