Abstract: Presents results of analysis of diurnal and potential efficiency of freezing water for use in construction of winter roads and crossings from artificial firn ice. Describes method of jet ice formation in winter which uses long-distance sprinkler installation for spraying water to create thick (more than 7 m) blocks of ice. Artificial firn can also be used to desalinate and purify polluted salt water. Finds that Northern Yakutiya and mouth of Ob' river are two areas of maximum productivity.
