Abstract: Introduces new automatic approach for picking cold-temperate transition surface (CTS) in radargrams of polythermal glaciers that uses difference in signal power exhibited by cold and temperate ice layers. Tests algorithm on polar glacier Midtre Lovénbreen (Svalbard), subpolar Storglaciären (Sweden) and mountainous Glacier de Tsanfleuron (Switzerland) between 2000-11. Shows good agreement between automatically computed CTS depths and manual picks. Discusses errors.
