Indigenous knowledge of hydrologic change in the Yukon River basin: a case study of Ruby, Alaska / Nicole J. Wilson, W. Todd Walter, Jon Waterhouse.

Title: Indigenous knowledge of hydrologic change in the Yukon River basin: a case study of Ruby, Alaska / Nicole J. Wilson, W. Todd Walter, Jon Waterhouse.
Author(s): Wilson, Nicole J.
Walter, W. Todd.
Waterhouse, Jon.
Date: 2015.
In: Arctic. (2015.), Vol. 68(1) (2015)
Abstract: Examines contribution of indigenous knowledge of water to understanding impacts of climate change on hydrology of Arctic and sub-Arctic watersheds. Exploratory study of Koyukon Athabascan village of Ruby, Alaska, shows that hydrologic changes are occurring in Yukon river basin, including alterations in temperature, precipitation, permafrost, annual hydrograph, river ice, and sediment regimes. Many of observed changes in water resources can be linked to complex processes not adequately explained by current hydrologic research.
