A spurious jump in the satellite record: has Antarctic sea ice expansion been overestimated? / I. Eisenman, W.N. Meier, J.R. Norris.
Title: | A spurious jump in the satellite record: has Antarctic sea ice expansion been overestimated? / I. Eisenman, W.N. Meier, J.R. Norris. |
Author(s): | Eisenman, I. Meier, W. N. Norris, J. R. |
Date: | 2015. |
Publisher: | [Göttingen]: Copernicus Publications |
Abstract: | Presents analysis of data for Antarctic sea ice cover which suggests that much of increase in reported trend was due to previously undocumented effect of change in way satellite sea ice observations are processed for widely used Bootstrap algorithm data set, rather than physical increase in rate of ice advance. Change in intercalibration across 1991 sensor transition when data set was reprocessed in 2007 caused substantial change in long-term trend, suggesting that significant error exists in either current data set or in version used prior to mid-2000s. |
