Abstract: Discusses reactions by US policy-makers to recent opportunities and challenges in Arctic (e.g. retreating sea ice, changing weather patterns, upsurge in resource exploitation, shipping and other economic activities, and need for geopolitical cooperation). Recommends various policy initiatives, including: maximising opportunities of leadership of Arctic Council, ratification of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and expansion of awareness of US Arctic maritime domain.
