Record #212871:

Boundary condition of grounding lines prior to collapse, Larsen-B Ice Shelf, Antarctica / M. Rebesco, and 11 others.

Title: Boundary condition of grounding lines prior to collapse, Larsen-B Ice Shelf, Antarctica / M. Rebesco, and 11 others.
Author(s): Rebesco, M.
Date: 2014.
Publisher: Washington, D.C.: American Association for the Advancement of Science
Abstract: Presents marine geophysical data collected in 2006 which showed large, arcuate, complex grounding zone sediment system at front of Crane Fjord on east coast of Antarctic Peninsula. Radiocarbon-constrained chronologies indicate loss of ice contact with bed about 12,000 years ago. Previous studies of fjord suggest that grounding zone was well within fjord before 2002, and did not retreat further until after collapse of Larsen-B Ice Shelf. Results imply that 2002 collapse was response to surface warming rather than to grounding zone instability.
