Последний ледниковый максимум в краевой зоне Антарктиды: синтез палеогеографических данных

Title: Последний ледниковый максимум в краевой зоне Антарктиды: синтез палеогеографических данных
Title, transliterated: Posledniĭ lednikovyĭ maksimum v kraevoĭ zone Antarktidy: sintez paleogeograficheskikh dannykh / S.R. Verkulich.
Translated title: Last Glacial Maximum in the marginal zone of Antarctica: a synthesis of palaeogeographical data.
Author(s): Verkulich, S. R.
Date: 2010.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2010.), Vol. 4(112) (2010)
Abstract: Comparative analysis of palaeogeographic investigations in ice-free regions of Antarctica shows that active glaciation of coastal zone started later than glacier growth in northern hemisphere, and followed dramatic cooling and sea level fall of 30-50 m. Ice mass accumulation on shelf was noticeably ahead of ice growth in continental areas and contributed to moisture deficiency on Antarctic mainland. During Glacial Maximum between 22,000 and 17,000 yr BP, coastal zone encompassed linked glacier system consisting of thin and low mobile glaciers in coastal land areas; thick and active outlet glaciers in deep shelf depressions; and extensive bodies of ice such as ice sheets and ice caps in levelled shelf areas. Deglaciation started about 16,000 yr BP as result of global warming trend and sea level rise.
